HOME

For my internship I will be working at Casino Essentials. This company provides training for employees specific to the gaming industry. I will be working closely with the SME to develop and implement online training courses. I will be working with software packages that include but are not limited to Lectora, Photoshop, Captivate, Articulate as well as other publishing software. I will also be using Learning Management Systems and resolving client issues as they arise.

I started this week and was able to get an insight on how varied instructional design can be. I was also able to use many of the tools that I have learned in the EDTEC program. My first assignment was to correct and update a lesson using Lectora, which I had never used before. It turned out to be pretty straight forward and was easy to publish to SCORM standards (EDTEC 671). I also was able to make some of the content more readable and visually compelling (EDTEC 640).

One of the best experiences came on my second day. I was able to virtually attend a meeting with the SME and a client. The SME was able to walk the client through the e-learning process and explain how easy it was to use the LMS and incorporate new learning into an existing management structure. She was able to explain the benefits to the employees and how it helps administrators collect and maintain data. She also gave examples of data collection and different methods of delivery to the client (EDTEC 690).

So far, everything seems to be going very well!

  1. Hi, Tom ... adding the logo was a nice touch!

So--I "get" that you're going to work on training -- but that's pretty general. What sorts of training does CE either provide or develop? On what topics/themes will you be working ... and who might be your target audiences?

Are you working on "solo" assets (so one-time events ... like the yearly sexual harassment training that, by law, I must complete) ... or are these full-blown courses that are part of an articulated curriculum? Perhaps it's job aids or other forms of performance support.

To do my best at helping you, I need details able the effort as you see it right now.

This was why I asked for clarification of the contract (and didn't yet sign off on it); I'm not good, really, at generics; I live for details.

BTW: What tool did your client use to conduct the virtual meeting. And interesting, one doesn't often see the SME interact with the client (external? internal?). Usually SMEs just don't have the interpersonal skills to pull that off; they tend NOT to be on the "interfacing" side of the business.

What is this SME's area of expertise?

Thanks ... I look forward to your responses.

    M.
